Getting what you really want from the universe…
The theme of manifestation has been made very apparent to me over the last two weeks. Many people I’ve spent time with have said: “I put this into the universe but I got this….”
How many of you have asked for your dream man to ride into your life and sweep you off your feet? A real knight in shining armour is what you wanted but what arrived? Probably just an idiot in tin foil!
I’m sure I mentioned somewhere that the universe is actually our old friend ‘Murphy’ – it just identifies as “The Universe’!
So what is manifestation you may ask? Manifestation is the process of bringing your thoughts into reality. It’s based on the belief that our thoughts are energy and that by focusing on positive thoughts, we can attract positive experiences into our lives. BUT, it also works the other way around – being negative and focusing on negative thoughts can bring exactly what you don’t want into your life, and it can be self-deprecating.
Again, I’m human and in my last blog I was caught out by my proofreader and very dearest friend of being self-deprecating. She basically said to me: “ I know this is the place where you feel safe to be you and real, however, some of the things you said about yourself were self-deprecating, and you’re putting that out into the Universe.” Wow! I didn’t see it like that! You may argue that as a counselor and holistic practitioner, I should’ve known this. Guys – I’m human remember, I also f&@k up, I’m not perfect! So, I edited my blog and published the ‘non-self-deprecating’ version! Self-deprecation is also a form of manifestation.
An important rule I teach my clients and friends with regards to manifestation and making your world ‘ideal’ (whatever that means for you) is to be SPECIFIC. Break down your requirements and don’t be vague. Don’t leave any part of your requirement up to the universe! Ja no – that may not work out for you and the universe will laugh in your face!
I was out for dinner the other night with some friends, a newlywed couple (they’re not legally married yet, but that’s a WHOLE other conversation over another glass of wine!). So now that the two newlyweds are “betrothed” they wanted to look for new opportunities and to move outside of Johannesburg. Now, in this day and age in South Africa, we all assume this means they’d like to emigrate – right? Hahahahahaha – well the universe gave them exactly what they asked for. One of the newlyweds was offered an unbelievable position, with great remuneration, all relocation costs covered, etc. etc. Nice right? But, the position was in an area outside Middleburg past Steelpoort. F&$KED if I know where that is! But, it’s outside Johannesburg! Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it!
A good few giggles later and two bottles of wine down, we came to the conclusion that the manifestation should have been: “We would like to Emigrate.” It was important that they at least indicated to the Universe that they’d like to cross the borders of South Africa. I mean really! Simply put, try something like this:
I’d like to live and work in [insert country]. I would like to live a comfortable life [explain what that means: financial, emotional …etc.] life with my partner. The job I want is [insert field] with better pay [insert ideal amount] in a peaceful loving healthy growing environment.
Yes, your simple manifestation is potentially going to end up being an essay! But leave out one detail and you’re screwed!!!! Literally!
The next step to manifestation is to take action. Manifestation is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You will need to take action in order to achieve. However, action should be taken from a place of trust and belief, rather than from a place of desperation or fear. However, even this can be tricky! Omg Adulting and being human is a hard job! Goddammm!
I, on the other hand, didn’t take action. I was in the travel industry and had my holistic practitioner business on the side. When I was not at work (travel, where I earned the majority of my income) I was working every hour including weekends. But I really wanted to leave travel and be a psychic medium full-time! The Universe heard that and kept pushing me in that direction!
Eventually, every hour of my day was filled with my work in the travel industry and my holistic practice. I had no more hours to spare. I’d made an agreement with myself that I’d only leave the travel industry once my holistic practice was bringing in the same amount of income. If I look back now I have no idea how I planned to do that. There were literally no more hours in the day for psychic clients!
So, what did the universe do? Well, because I was clearly not getting the message and seeing what I needed to do (sometimes it isn’t about money, money is more often than not EGO) the universe brought COVID!
So now I was out of travel – not because I wanted to, or because of my boss who was my friend (who I still love and adore, even though there is tension) but due to the impact Covid had on the travel industry. I was out of travel!
And to make things worse, I was in a car accident just before lockdown. This accident left me with nerve damage down my left arm (I’m left-handed!). I was not able to use a computer!! We didn’t know if I would ever get complete mobility back in my arm. I now had NO CHOICE but to earn income myself and be my own boss! My BIGGEST FEAR in all the world! But the Universe gave me two years of Covid to ease into it and start my own business! And now, three years later, I have yet to miss a payment or bill. I’ve kept my head above water – AND I’ve always managed to have a little bit extra each month to fund my habits and addictions (and to spoil a friend or two!). Nowadays, the thought of ever working for someone else is nauseating!
Covid was HORRIFIC. It caused devastation for so many people. For me, however, Covid was a blessing as it was the catalyst that forced me into the world I’m in today. I didn’t take action so the Universe did it for me!
Another example of not taking action (a little less violent) involves another dear friend of mine and Editor-in-Chief of this blog (who will remain anonymous). All you need to know is that we met at ballet last year! This special human kept praying and manifesting for different experiences and adventures, along with fresh like-minded people. An advert for adult ballet classes appeared and she decided that she had nothing to lose and why not just give it a bash. She took action. It was there that she met awesome, like-minded, fresh new people. People showed an interest in her (something she wasn’t used to). She really enjoyed the ballet and the people. As it naturally happens when you make new friends, you want to be social with them! This is where it became difficult for her. There were already people in her life from years ago and those were her people! It got to the point where it was getting awkward and hard for her to keep declining the social invitations with the new people at ballet (hard for her to take action on becoming friends with new people and welcoming newness into her life). It was at this point that she took a hard stance and said: “Right I put this out there, it’s now or never.” Her life has completely changed…. and yes for the better! Suddenly she was acutely aware of where she had “settled” in her life with ‘her people’ and of how she had taken her power back and reclaimed it! It has been a privilege to watch the metamorphoses and changes of this dynamic human!
So the Universe is a tricky place – human, Murphy whatever it is or isn’t! Manifest what you want by being specific and taking action!!!! And if you don’t and shit happens don’t swear at the Universe and go into victim mode.
