What does spirituality mean to me?
Just a forward note – this is a non-denominational topic and discussion!
This is a topic that I believe is really important. And, it’s especially important to me.
The definition of spiritual (thanks google): “relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.” However, the word spiritual is used and misused everyday!
When dealing with clients who are religious, be it Catholic, Muslim, Hindu Jewish or religious in their Atheism, I always say that the spirit world, and being spiritual, is not really different. You can be a devout Christian but also be spiritual. You don’t have to be one or the other. Whoever said that you can’t be religious and spiritual?
I’d just like to highlight: I drink like a fish, I smoke like a chimney and I swear (not really like a trooper but yea I love my descriptive words). I always say to my clients: “I talk to the dead for a living, I need a F@&$eN vice!” I teach yoga, I’m a psychic medium, I facilitate healing through Reiki energy and Crystals, I do numerology, colour readings and many other things. For all these things my vibration needs to be high, but at some point I also need to be human and be Marc. In a nutshell, this is what this blog post is about – maintaining and raising your high vibration whilst trying to be you AND spiritual, all at the same time!
Below are some useful tips for raising your vibration. Raising your vibration allows you to see and receive your messages clearer. You can have a very low vibration and still see and receive your messages, trust me on this! I was in an accident and that was a sign – I definitely was not on a high vibration that day! The universe does have a sense of humour and I’m convinced the universe’s real name is Murphy – he just identifies as “the Universe” ????
Meditation
God, I love meditation! But guys, meditation is NOT just sitting in a lotus position, palms up chanting Ommmmmmmmmm. That is the perception of meditation but what meditation really is, is the silencing of the mind. But, how on earth does one silence your mind?? Okay, so, playing candy crush, walking your dogs and gardening are examples. Unfortunately it isn’t sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine staring into space – that’s mouth gym! (also raising your vibration but in Tuesdays blog???? )
Affirmations and questions
How many of you have been told to stand in front of a mirror and say: “I’m thin! I’m beautiful!” Bla bla bla bullshit! I’ve honestly never heard such traumatic and trigger-pointing shit in my life! You can stand in front of that mirror until you’re blue in the face saying “I am beautiful” but if your subconscious doesn’t believe it – well shame all that effort was a nice try! Nice cameo performance but not today Satan! So, we need to train the subconscious. But, how do we do that? We do this by phrasing our affirmations in the form of questions. Gary Douglas from Access Consciousness Ⓡ talks about possibility as a reality based on asking questions. Asking questions creates more possibilities. Here are some examples that I’ve tried and tested. And yes, I’m still standing, still hating what the mirror shows – but spiritual ????
- What do I need to do differently to achieve?
- What is so right about this that I am not seeing?
- What new change is possible now?
Eat healthy and drink water
By eating healthier foods I don’t mean gluten free, dairy free vegan, vegetarian, happy free foods. I’m talking about nourishing meals that your body likes. And no, you do not have to be a vegetarian to be spiritual! If you have food intolerances, by all means follow the directions of your doctors, but if you’re a normal human like me who loves food…. eat baby!!!!
I always say to my clients: “life for me as a vegetarian would be easy. I’d just realllyyyy miss biltong!” So I’m not a veggie. And yes I drink water (surprise surprise). I promise you – you will not rust if you drink water! But please don’t go and buy yourself herbs and drink infused water – I will laugh at you!
Take a salt bath
Epsom salts, and hot water. Yes I know a lot of you have little to no time for this, but, you all shower or have a bath surely? At some point even? So then add a little salt to the bath water and do your meditation (play candy crush) whilst in the bath. And seeing as there is a lot of water already being used, fill up a glass of wine and enjoy your three-in-one! You can also light a candle or 10 if you wish – if it’s loadshedding, you might have to, not by choice. So embrace the loadshedding and light up your time and life.
Exercise
Hahahahahahahaa! Yea no, exercise and me go together like oil and water. All exercise really is, is movement of the body and elevating your heart rate. It’s not running a half marathon on your first try and it’s certainly not about spending money at Nike or Lorna Jane to look the part! It’s merely being comfortable and getting your heart rate up.
I do ballet! Okay – close your mouth, stop being judgy! I have two left feet, absolutely no coordination, I certainly don’t have an hourglass figure and I definitely don’t pirouette around in spandex tights and a leotard (dear God I’ve just had a vision!). I wear my tracksuit pants and the comfiest top I have, and on Monday and Wednesday nights, and Saturday mornings I join Mark Hawkins’ ballet class for adults. We sweat, we swear, we stretch, we pant, we laugh, we cry but most of all we / I have fun! And yes, sometimes class is moved to the Blind Tiger and we exercise our mouth muscles. Message me if you want the class details!!! We always welcome new folk that can’t dance!
These are literally just a few ways to raise your vibration, it’s not about not having time, you can do it all in one. If you pray, I always advise my clients to do their prayers and meditation in one, combine it all. Use your time wisely.
However the most important part of raising your vibration is to always be you!
You don’t have to be a veggie, tree-hugger, nudist who runs in the forest chanting! If that’s your vibe and that raises your vibration, fantastic! But, if it isn’t your vibe, you don’t have to sit on the sidelines and wish you were like them – all spiritual and free. Just be you and be comfortable. I use the word comfortable lightly because a lot of us actually don’t know how to be comfortable. I’m not comfortable but I’m happy and that’s one step closer to being comfortable.
So spirituality to me, is being YOU and striving to be an awesome version of you!
I’m Marc, I’m a medium. Actually no, I’m an XL (haha). I’m a psychic medium, I drink, I smoke, I swear, I have fun, I laugh and I take happy pills and mood stabilizers and ADHD medication. Yes, I also go to a psychiatrist and I love her! And guess what, I am spiritual!!!!!
I run psychic development workshops with a very special, dear friend and it’s in these workshops that you too can learn more about raising your vibrations – and possibly start your spiritual journey! Message me for those details if you’d like.
Love you all
